Use the Name Numerology Calculator to calculate your name number and explore its meaning in numerology. Enter your name to discover the number associated with it and understand what it traditionally represents about your personality, strengths, communication style, and life direction.
A name numerology calculator converts each letter of a name into a number, adds those numbers together, and reduces the total to a single digit (or to a master number such as 11 or 22). The result is read as a symbolic profile of the name. Enter your full name below to get your Expression (Name) number, Soul Urge number and Personality number, worked out in both the Western Pythagorean system and the Chaldean system that Indian numerology (Ank Jyotish, or Naam Ank) is built on. Numerology is a symbolic tradition, not a science, so use the results as a prompt for reflection rather than a prediction.

Different sites use different labels for the same calculation, which is the main source of confusion. Here is how the common terms line up.

One naming trap to know about: some numerologists use “Destiny number” for the all-letters name number, while others reserve “Destiny” for the Life Path number, which comes from your date of birth. Check which meaning a site is using before you compare results.
The Pythagorean system, the one most Western sites use, runs through the alphabet in order: A to I are 1 to 9, then J starts again at 1. The Chaldean system assigns the numbers 1 to 8 by the sound of each letter and leaves 9 out, treating it as sacred. Indian numerology mainly follows the Chaldean table, in the lineage of the early-twentieth-century numerologist Cheiro.

There is also a convention difference. Pythagorean readings usually start from the full birth name, while Chaldean readings traditionally use the name a person is commonly known by. Sites often claim one system is “the most accurate”, but that cannot be tested, because neither has been shown to predict anything. Pick one method and stay consistent, because mixing them gives you numbers that belong to neither tradition.
Emma Clarke is a made-up name, used here so you can check the arithmetic by hand. Letter values, Pythagorean first: E5 M4 M4 A1 C3 L3 A1 R9 K2 E5.

The same name gives an Expression number of 1 in one system and 3 in the other. That is not a bug in the calculator. It is the reason to choose a system deliberately, and a good reason not to read either result as a fact about the person.
In Ank Jyotish, three numbers are usually read together. Moolank (radical number) is the day of the month you were born, reduced to one digit. Bhagyank (destiny number) comes from adding your full date of birth. Namank (नामांक), or the name number, comes from your name using the Chaldean table above, and traditionally from the name you use every day.
Each digit is also linked to a planet. The mapping below is the one commonly used in Indian numerology; some schools substitute other planets (for example Uranus for 4 and Neptune for 7), so check which convention your reader follows.

Master numbers 11 and 22 are kept unreduced in Western practice and read as more intense versions of 2 and 4. Some calculators also keep 33, so a result can differ from one site to another for that reason alone.
Traditions genuinely disagree here, so there is no single correct answer. Choose one approach and keep it consistent.
There is no scientific evidence that the letters in your name shape your personality or your future. Many people use numerology the way others use journaling prompts: as a structured way to think about strengths, motivations and how they come across. That is a fine use. It is not a basis for major decisions.
In particular, do not change your legal name, or choose a business name, purely on a calculator result. For a business, check trademark and domain availability first (your national trademark register is the place to start). For a legal name change, follow the official process where you live and consider the practical effect on documents and records.
Convert each letter using your chosen table, add all the values, then keep adding the digits of the total until you reach a single digit, unless the total is 11 or 22. For example, a total of 37 becomes 3 + 7 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1.
Many sites use the two terms for the same all-letters number. Others keep “Destiny” for the Life Path number calculated from your date of birth. Check which meaning the site or book you are reading uses.
It depends on the tradition. Western Pythagorean readings usually use the full birth name, while Chaldean and Indian readings traditionally use the name you are known by. If you are unsure, calculate both and compare.
Take each letter of the name you use every day and look up its value in the Chaldean table above. Add the values and reduce to one digit. For example, Emma is E5 + M4 + M4 + A1 = 14, then 1 + 4 = 5, so the Namank is 5, linked to Mercury in the table above.
The arithmetic is exact, and any two calculators using the same table and rules should agree. The interpretation is a symbolic tradition with no scientific validation, so treat it as reflection, not prediction.
Changing a spelling changes the number, and some practitioners recommend it. There is no evidence that it changes outcomes, so consider the practical side first, such as how it affects your documents and how people will spell it.
You can test options for interest. Choose on meaning, pronunciation and, for a business, trademark and domain availability, and treat the numerology as a tie-breaker at most.
