Rahu Nakshatra Transit 2027: Dates, Capricorn & Effects
Rahu makes no sign (rashi) change at all during 2027 — it entered Capricorn in early December 2026 and stays there until well into 2028. What does change across 2027 is Rahu’s nakshatra: using the mean-node calculation this page’s main table is built on (see “How these dates are calculated” below), Rahu begins the year already in Dhanishta, moves into Shravana on 10 April 2027, and into Uttara Ashadha on 18 December 2027. That’s three nakshatras occupied during the year, two nakshatra transitions within it, and zero rashi changes — the whole shape of Rahu’s 2027.

Rahu and Ketu are always exactly 180° apart, so wherever Rahu sits, Ketu is in the corresponding nakshatra and pada on the opposite side of the chart — Ashlesha while Rahu transits Dhanishta, Pushya while Rahu is in Shravana, and Punarvasu once Rahu reaches Uttara Ashadha. Every date above moves both nodes at once; Ketu never changes on a different day than Rahu does. The Ketu column was derived from that 180° relationship and then checked against an independently published source that lists Ketu’s dates directly, rather than asserted on the 180° logic alone.
How these dates are calculated — and why another source might show different ones
This page’s main table uses the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsha and the mean lunar node — the smoothed, steadily-retrograde calculation of Rahu’s position that most public panchang sites show by default. The alternative, the true node, tracks Rahu’s actual, slightly oscillating position (it wobbles by roughly ±1.3° on a cycle of a few months, and can briefly slow or even reverse that oscillation) and gives measurably different crossing dates. For 2027 specifically, Drik Panchang’s own true-node table puts the Shravana entry at 21 April (11 days after the mean-node date used here) and the Uttara Ashadha entry at 26 November (22 days before the mean-node date used here) — the gap between the two methods isn’t a fixed number of days; it varies with where Rahu happens to be in its oscillation when it crosses a given boundary. Some popular professional astrology software (Jagannatha Hora, notably) defaults to the true node, which is the most common reason a chart calculated elsewhere won’t match a date on this page exactly. Neither method is “more correct” in any absolute sense — they’re answering a slightly different astronomical question — but a muhurta or ritual timed to a boundary date should be checked against whichever method your own astrologer or software actually uses.
One further wrinkle specific to this transit: Drik Panchang’s dedicated nakshatra-transit tool tracks the older 28-nakshatra convention (see “Why 27, and not 28?” in our nakshatra list guide) for this particular passage, showing Rahu passing through Abhijit — historically the 28th nakshatra, carved out of the Uttara Ashadha/Shravana boundary — between Shravana and Uttara Ashadha (1 December 2027 on the mean node, 15 November on the true node). Most other sources, and this page’s main table, follow the standard 27-nakshatra convention and show Rahu moving directly from Shravana into Uttara Ashadha with no Abhijit stop. Both are internally consistent; they simply follow different nakshatra-counting traditions.
Why Rahu doesn’t change sign in 2027
Rahu entered Capricorn in early December 2026 and, moving retrograde at its usual pace of roughly 18 months per sign, isn’t due to cross into Sagittarius until around the middle of 2028 — which is why the entire 2027 calendar year falls inside a single, uninterrupted Capricorn transit. The three nakshatra phases within that transit are not equal in length, and it’s worth being precise about which part of each phase actually falls in 2027: Dhanishta’s 2027 portion is only its tail end (1 January to 10 April, having begun back in mid-2026); Shravana is the one phase that runs almost entirely within the calendar year (10 April to 18 December, around eight months); and Uttara Ashadha’s 2027 portion is just its opening two weeks, since the full transit continues on into 2028.
What each phase traditionally emphasises
January – April: Dhanishta (lord Mars)
The opening months of 2027 continue a Dhanishta transit that began in 2026. Dhanishta’s themes — wealth, ambition, rhythm, group coordination, and Mars’s added drive and impatience — are read as colouring Rahu’s usual amplifying, boundary-pushing nature through this stretch, with a tendency toward intensified ambition around money, status and group projects.
April – December: Shravana (lord Moon)
From 10 April, Rahu moves into Shravana, a nakshatra tied to listening, learning and communication, ruled by the Moon. Traditional readings generally associate this shift with Rahu’s restless, expansive energy turning toward information, media, networks and public reputation — themes that run for the bulk of the year, from April through December.
December onward: Uttara Ashadha (lord Sun)
In the final two weeks of 2027, Rahu crosses into Uttara Ashadha, a nakshatra associated with long-term achievement and enduring victory, ruled by the Sun. Uttara Ashadha itself spans the Sagittarius/Capricorn boundary — its first pada sits in Sagittarius, its remaining three in Capricorn — and Rahu, moving retrograde, enters directly into its fourth and final pada, which is why the sign shown stays Capricorn with no contradiction. This short stretch is traditionally read as a shift toward ambition tied to status, authority and lasting accomplishment, setting the tone heading into 2028.
These are broad, traditional thematic readings of the transit itself — not a prediction for any individual chart. Rahu’s effect on a specific person depends heavily on which houses and other placements these nakshatras fall across in their own birth chart, which is well outside what a general transit calendar can tell you.
A note on the dates leading into 2027
Published sources broadly agree that Rahu entered Capricorn in early December 2026 (dates cited range from 5 to 6 December, likely a time-zone artefact around the same astronomical moment) and had already been transiting Dhanishta since mid-2026 — though sources disagree more on exactly when that Dhanishta transit began, with cited dates ranging from late June to early August 2026. This predates the 2027 window this page focuses on, so it’s mentioned here only for continuity; if you need the exact 2026 entry date, cross-check a dedicated panchang source directly.
Frequently asked questions
Does Rahu change sign in 2027?
No. Rahu stays in Capricorn for the entirety of 2027, having entered in early December 2026 and not due to leave until around mid-2028.
What nakshatras does Rahu transit in 2027?
Three: it continues through Dhanishta from the start of the year, moves into Shravana on 10 April 2027, and into Uttara Ashadha on 18 December 2027.
Where is Ketu during Rahu’s 2027 transit?
Always exactly opposite Rahu: in Ashlesha (Cancer) while Rahu is in Dhanishta, in Pushya while Rahu is in Shravana, and in Punarvasu once Rahu reaches Uttara Ashadha. Both nodes move on the same dates, since they are always 180° apart.
When exactly does Rahu enter Shravana nakshatra?
10 April 2027, according to multiple independently published transit calculators that agree on this date.
How long does Rahu stay in each nakshatra?
A full nakshatra transit runs close to a year at Rahu’s pace, but the portion falling inside the 2027 calendar year varies a lot by nakshatra: Dhanishta’s 2027 portion is just its tail end (to 10 April), since the full transit began in mid-2026; Shravana is the one phase that runs almost entirely within 2027 (10 April to 18 December, about eight months); and Uttara Ashadha’s 2027 portion is only its opening two weeks, since that transit continues on into 2028.
Are these transit times exact for my location?
The dates are reliable for the mean-node calculation this page uses, but the exact clock time shifts with time zone, and small discrepancies between sources are common. For anything time-sensitive, such as a muhurta decision, confirm the precise local time — and whether your source uses the mean or true node — against a panchang or astrology software set to your location rather than relying on a general date alone.
Why do some sites show Rahu entering Shravana on 21 April instead of 10 April?
That source is most likely using the true lunar node rather than the mean node this page’s main table is built on — the two methods track slightly different astronomical definitions of Rahu’s position and can disagree by anywhere from about a week to a few months on a given boundary, depending on where Rahu is in its oscillation at the time. See “How these dates are calculated” above for the specific 2027 figures.
